5 Lessons from Blogging

Posted in

1. It's not just technology
Geeks pioneered blogging so people think it is all about the technology. It isn't. Focus on people. It is people who read, subscribe, comment and tell their friends, technology is merely the tool you use to bring your content to the people.

2. Content is only the start
Yes, content is king, but without an army, what is a king but a simple man in a funny hat? If content is your king, promotion is your army. Saying all you need is content is like saying all a pie needs is flour. Success comes from several ingredients in the right measures; consistent, quality, valuable content, with good promotion, community and most of all patience!

3. It's not just WHAT you know
Networking is the key to success in blogging, and probably in life. Yes, it is not just what you know but also who. Get out and make friends.

4. Be nice on the way up
As a continuation of the previous point, I have seen so many people use and abuse their contacts and readers only to find when the proverbial hits the wind making device they are all alone. Do not make this mistake, be nice on the way up and you might get some friendly help when things go rough.

5. Give to receive
What you get out all depends on what you put in. Over the years, I have seen the idea constantly reinforced that before you try to take any rewards, you need to give, give and give some more. All too often people think blogging is a route to riches, so they slap ads all over their theme, push dodgy affiliate offers and generally try to extract every last cent from their blog before even creating any useful resource. Remember, garbage in, garbage out.

Let's Enjoy!

Why You Should Not Blog

Posted in

Yes, you read that right. Why you should NOT blog.

Blogging is not for everyone.

There are some good reasons I have seen suggested why you should not blog:

  • You don’t have the time to do it justice.
  • Blogging would add nothing to your business or life.
  • Writing is too difficult or unpleasant.
  • Your company is struggling to keep up with current order levels.
  • Customer contact can never be in the culture.
  • Change is out of the question.
  • Colleagues can’t be relied on to behave.
  • Lawyers, PR and Brand team have to sign off on every communication.
  • If you created blog for earning the it may "Adsense CTR is too low"
    … And so on
Some of these are more valid than others, some have counter arguments and some are harder to solve than others. I can think of tactics that suit certain businesses better than blogging purely from an ROI basis.

One example would be a local swimming teacher who is booked up three years in advance and barely has time to spend with her own kids. A blog might give her opportunities to sell her expertise, gain private bookings, make more money and free up her time, or it might just create more work, a chore that takes her away from family quality time. It depends on the person and nobody can decide for her.

That all said, fact is there is only one reason you should never blog. You should never blog if you are not interested in communicating.

Blogging is all about your interaction with an audience. It is not a passive advertising platform. Creating a blog is not a magic ticket to the top of search engine results, and it will not suck eyeballs like a vacuum cleaner.

To succeed in blogging you have to be interested in your audience, you have to be there, be authentic, interact, and you have to consistently serve and delight them. If this is too much like effort, do anything else but blog. It just won’t work for you.

On the positive side, blogs are very good at attracting, educating and interesting audiences. You can get very fast feedback, gain a better industry profile, create sales leads, and have fun doing it.

It all depends on your mindset and motivation.

Starting tips for a NEW website

Posted in , ,

There is no point in having a new website that looks beautiful and is unknown to the internet community unless you take some active steps to promote it,oe else all your efforts will be futile and useless. If you are not sure where to begin, here are some steps that are bound to prove useful.

1. Tell Your Associates:There is no need to reach the unknown millions of people out there surfing the Internet, instead it would be wise if we contact our friends and associates.Look at your e-mail address book and get the word out, tell your business contacts, friends, relatives and tel them to tell their friends too. Channelise them in a proper way.

2. Link to Your Own Site:If you already have one website, make sure that this site is linking to your new site. A website without any incoming links to it will have a very low page ranking in the all-important Google search engine and will face an uphill battle to be seen in Google search results, especially if you are in a very competitive category.Even when your site is in the construction stage you, or even your web designer can link to the new site from another already well-established site, mentioning that the new site is under construction. If you already have several sites, then link them to your infant site. It will help the new site to be seen in competitive search engine listings even in its debut period.

3. Get a paid inclusion in one of the big search engines:It takes 4-6 weeks to get listed in Google, and other search engines are equally slow. However there are a few fairly important search engines that have inexpensive express inclusion programs. If you join these programs, then your site will be listed in 48 hours. Inktomi, which provides results for MSN and 100 other search services, has an inclusion program which costs $39 for the first URL that you submit, and subsequent ones cost $25. The value of the Inktomi submission is that they revisit your URL every 48 hours and if you make changes on the page you can see the results in the MSN listings very quickly. Thus, you can tweak your pages and see how it affects your position.

4. Add your site to the Open Web Directory and the major search engines:Quality is more important than quantity when it comes to search engine submission. Forget about the sales hype that tells you to add your URL to 300, 000 search engines. Only a few search engines and directories provide the lion’s share of Internet traffic. If your site is in good shape, no longer under construction, then go to www.dmoz.org. This is the Open Web Directory. Find the category where your site fits, and make a submission. If you are accepted here your site will appear in the many search engines and local directories that use the results from the Open Web Directory. Inclusion in this directory usually takes time but it will help you a lot. Similarly submit your site to Google, Alta Vista and All The Web, these are the remaining giants where you can submit for free.

5. Start a reciprocal links campaign – Once you have given yourself a link from your other sites or from your designer’s page, you can go out and ask other complementary sites for links.Always try exchanging links with sites that have a good page rank for it indicates that the site has good hits and is often visited.By having a trackback link chances of your site having hits is enhanced.

6. Write an article about your product or service – If you have a website the chances are that you are an expert in the field that your site is all about. Write an article about your product or service, or write an article related to the subject matter of your site. Submit the article online to various websites and e-mail lists dealing with your topic. The publication of your article in a big e-zine, or on a popular web site can get your new site off to a roaring start.

7. Promote Your Site Off-line – Now that you have a site, put the URL brochures, business cards, TV advertising, and circulars. The cafepress.com has a program enabling you to put your URL on these items and even sell them online.Last but not the least be unique and be promotionally inclined initially for traffic generation.

ColorPic Review, A Must Have Freeware

Posted in , ,

Yesterday, I was searching some free utlities and just popped into IconicCo's ColorPic. ColorPic is an easy program to pick any color from the screen and to store it in different palettes automatically (single XML file), ready to be used. Colors are shown in hex and decimal. It can show and modify many values (Hue, Saturation, RGB, and so on).It also uses a resizable magnification area and collapsible sections. It can calculate web-safe colors.

The ColorPic also sports a magnification area that allows you to get super detailed when picking a color. Version four has major speed improvements and an easier to use magnification slider, and now allows you to select either a point sample or a 3x3 or 5x5 average color from any place on your screen.

I am sure Iconico.com is still happy to provide the ColorPic as totally free software with no catches, even though ColorPic's features now surpass many of our competitor's commercial applications. So, I recommends every professional to have this tool.

Joomla VS Wordpress

Posted

There is no specific reason for this post but I just came out of a painful slump following my struggle with Joomla, another excellent open source content management system similar to (but certainly more extensive than) Wordpress.
While it was relatively easy for me to understand the inner maneuvers of Wordpress, my Joomla journey was laden with several false starts and an overwhelming desire to give up.

I finally did get the hang of it. And the results are spectacular. But I have come to the conclusion that in terms of self publishing platforms, nothing still beats Wordpress. Joomla, on the other hand, is superior in terms of data management and content flexibility.

I do understand, however, that these two platforms are meant for entirely different functions. Wordpress is primarily a blogging system, whereas Joomla is geared towards more complex websites, web portals, and the like. However, several bloggers do use Joomla, and some developers do use Wordpress for non-blogging sites. (Note: There’s a component that bridges Wordpress and Joomla, but I have heard some pretty ugly horror stories about it. Here’s hoping it would evolve soon.)

I would not recommend one over the other. They are both great platforms with excellent documentation. But, as one reviewer puts it, they are different conceptually. One must bear this in mind when trying to decide between the two.
In the meantime, here’s my two cents’ worth…

Use Wordpress if:

  1. You’re a blogger.
  2. SEO is your foremost concern.
  3. You have little or no design and development skills.
  4. You want a simple and easy admin-side interface.
  5. You have no patience for PHP hacks.
  6. You have little time to spare on extensions (plugins).

Use Joomla if:

  1. You’re running a portal, a web community, a complex corporate website, or an educational resource.
  2. You’re an experienced designer or developer.
  3. You need to manage and moderate several users.
  4. You can devote time and energy to study the system.
  5. You trust yourself with PHP.
I am going to register a domain soon, and will go with Wordpress, as in my view SEO is the most important.

Weblink Popularity Working Tips

It is no secret that having more quality Weblinks pointing into your site will help to improve its ranking in the search engines. Here are a few tips to help build the Weblink popularity levels of your site.

Tip 1: Write and Distribute articles
Article marketing is a proven way to increase the ranking of your site as well as build credibility and establish your site as an authority in its niche. All you need to do is write a good quality article around 500 to 700 words and submit it to top article directories. You can use an article directory submission service like Article Marketer if you want to save time submitting by hand.

Tip 2: Submit to directories
There are many Weblink directories online that you can submit to however submitting manually can be tedious which is why you should use some type of directory submission service.

Tip 3: Improve the content of your site
The better the content is on your site, the more people will Weblink to it over time. Also do not forget the power of word of mouth advertising as it is still the most powerful form of advertising. If you create a really great site, the word will spread and people will visit your site even if you have little to no search engine presence.

Content really is king so work hard to create the best possible content. Mastering the search engine game can be tough. Contact me to get a free e-book via email.

What to write In the BLOGS

Posted in

Hmmm.... It is the creative instinct which makes a person to write and express himself, his thoughts and ideas to others. If you wish to be a writer, you must learn to develop your own view point and try to elaborate on it. All good writers make us see things in a different light and perspective. Mostly people tend to write on the same subject, but your presentation must reflect your personality and individuality. Perhaps your ideas and thoughts must be original and interwoven in such a manner so as to attract the readers attention instantly.

There are countless interesting subjects on which you can write about in different forms but blogs that catch the attention of readers and bloggers are mostly current subjects, sports, short stories, jokes, small happenings in day to day events, our feelings and observations about life etc. There is a good market for he humorous stories and adventurous stories, the domestic tales and mysteries from ancient times and also stories related to animals and about strange experiences.

Don’t worry if your story turns out to be too short. Sometimes short stories are all time hits. The best blogs need not be very big as very few have the time to read the whole article. The content must be what the readers fear, desire, expect or best of all don’t expect at all. Hope you guys will come up with quality content because in the game of Google there is only one rule.... "Content Rules"...........

World's Most Obese Man Celebrated his 43rd Birthday

Posted in , ,

Mexico's Manuel Uribe, once the world's most obese man, celebrated his 43rd birthday on Wednesday with a very short trip outside his house.
In only his third outing in six years, Uribe, sitting on his huge reinforced bed, was dragged outside his garage bedroom and onto the pavement outside his house in Monterrey in northern Mexico. Presents of suckling pig and lamb arrived.
Still weighing the size of three hefty men, Uribe sat on his bed wearing only a bedsheet, drank a beer and chatted to his mother, girlfriend and neighbors in the cool evening air, waiting for a cake.
"I'm happy that it is my birthday," he told reporters interviewing the man who weighed 717 pounds (324 kg) in May after losing 518 pounds (235 kg) since March 2006 on a diet of grapefruits, egg-white omelets, fish, chicken and vegetables.
Uribe is still unable to move his swollen legs and his dream is to walk again and visit the mountainous countryside around Monterrey.
Uribe spent the 1990s eating pizzas and burgers in the United States where he worked as a computer repairman. Addicted to junk food, he eventually tipped the scales at 1,235 pounds (560 kg) back in Mexico, bingeing on greasy tacos.
His bulk made him the world's heaviest man and won him a place in the 2008 edition of the Guinness World Records.

World's First Pregnant Man (Thomas Beatie)

Posted in , , ,

An American man who claims he is six months pregnant said it was a "miracle" in his first TV interview.
Thomas Beatie, 34, of Bend, Oregon, used to be a woman before undergoing gender reassignment surgery.
He first claimed he was pregnant in an article headlined "Labour of love" in a gay magazine, the Advocate, last month.
Many were sceptical, particularly after Beatie said he would not give any interviews until April Fools' Day.
But speaking on Oprah Winfrey's US chat show yesterday, he said: "Different is normal and love makes a family. And that's all that matters."
Beatie appeared with his wife, Nancy, for the interview. The audience was shown footage of his ultrasound scan and heard the sound of a heartbeat.
As he saw the scan on the monitor, Beatie told the doctor: "She's kicking. I can't believe it. I can't believe she's inside me. This is a miracle. We see this as a miracle."
He described pregnancy as a "human desire", not limited to women.
"I'm a person and I have the right to have my own biological child," he said.
Beatie said pregnancy did not make him feel more feminine.
"It doesn't make me want to go and shave my legs or something," he said. "I'm a man, I just happen to be a pregnant man."
He told Winfrey he had had a sex change but had not altered his reproductive organs because he wanted to have a child.
"I didn't know how, it was just a dream," he said.
"There was no plan laid out."
He said many organisations the couple had contacted for help had advised them against going public, warning: "The world's not ready for something like this."
But he said: "I think people will be shocked because no one's ever heard of a man giving birth before.
"I guess it's a shocking concept, but in this day and age that's possible. And it's happening now."
Dr Kimberley James, the couple's doctor in Bend, Oregon, told the show the pregnancy was "normal".
"This baby's totally healthy and this is, I consider, an average pregnancy," she said.
Beatie was born female and called Tracy Lagondino before undergoing gender reassignment surgery. He is legally married and has been married for five years.
He was a Miss Teen Hawaii finalist but described himself as a tomboy growing up.
Beatie told Winfrey he "found himself" at college after a boyfriend told him he was not feminine enough.
"I feel like I was meant to be exactly who I am today," he said.

Kareena Kapoor Is Impossibly Hot

And that’s despite her remarks confirming the absence of any tiny bikinis that would show-off her size-zero tits in Tashan.

But we can’t seem to agree with media reports about the 3.5 crore superstar starving herself to nothing for the movie - because it’s clear from the promo pics that she’s maintained nice amounts of flesh in all the right places.

I am in agreement of course with expectations of the new Kareena Kapoor blowing away everything else in the movie - which is why our specially doctored Tashan stills ensure you see nothing but her.

Top Ten Myths of Entrepreneurship

Posted in

Myths of Entrepreneurship
Many entrepreneurs believe a bunch of myths about entrepreneurship, so here are ten of the most common and the realities that bust them:

It takes a lot of money to finance a new business. Not true. The typical start-up only requires about $25,000 to get going. The successful entrepreneurs who don’t believe the myth design their businesses to work with little cash. They borrow instead of paying for things. They rent instead of buy. And they turn fixed costs into variable costs by, say, paying people commissions instead of salaries.

Venture capitalists are a good place to go for start-up money. Not unless you start a computer or biotech company. Computer hardware and software, semiconductors, communication, and biotechnology account for 81 percent of all venture capital dollars, and seventy-two percent of the companies that got VC money over the past fifteen or so years. VCs only fund about 3,000 companies per year and only about one quarter of those companies are in the seed or start-up stage. In fact, the odds that a start-up company will get VC money are about one in 4,000. That’s worse than the odds that you will die from a fall in the shower.

Most business angels are rich. If rich means being an accredited investor –a person with a net worth of more than $1 million or an annual income of $200,000 per year if single and $300,000 if married – then the answer is “no.” Almost three quarters of the people who provide capital to fund the start-ups of other people who are not friends, neighbors, co-workers, or family don’t meet SEC accreditation requirements. In fact, thirty-two percent have a household income of $40,000 per year or less and seventeen percent have a negative net worth.
Start-ups can’t be financed with debt. Actually, debt is more common than equity. According to the Federal Reserve’s Survey of Small Business Finances, fifty-three percent of the financing of companies that are two years old or younger comes from debt and only forty-seven percent comes from equity. So a lot of entrepreneurs out there are using debt rather than equity to fund their companies.

Banks don’t lend money to start-ups. This is another myth. Again, the Federal Reserve data shows that banks account for sixteen percent of all the financing provided to companies that are two years old or younger. While sixteen percent might not seem that high, it is three percent higher than the amount of money provided by the next highest source – trade creditors – and is higher than a bunch of other sources that everyone talks about going to: friends and family, business angels, venture capitalists, strategic investors, and government agencies.
Most entrepreneurs start businesses in attractive industries. Sadly, the opposite is true. Most entrepreneurs head right for the worst industries for start-ups. The correlation between the number of entrepreneurs starting businesses in an industry and the number of companies failing in the industry is 0.77. That means that most entrepreneurs are picking industries in which they are mostlikely to fail.

The growth of a start-up depends more on an entrepreneur’s talent than on the business he chooses. Sorry to deflate some egos here, but the industry you choose to start your company has a huge effect on the odds that it will grow. Over the past twenty years or so, about 4.2 percent of all start-ups in the computer and office equipment industry made the Inc 500 list of the fastest growing private companies in the U.S. 0.005 percent of start-ups in the hotel and motel industry and 0.007 percent of start-up eating and drinking establishments made the Inc. 500. That means the odds that you will make the Inc 500 are 840 times higher if you start a computer company than if you start a hotel or motel. There is nothing anyone has discovered about the effects of entrepreneurial talent that has a similar magnitude effect on the growth of new businesses.

Most entrepreneurs are successful financially. Sorry, this is another myth. Entrepreneurship creates a lot of wealth, but it is very unevenly distributed. The typical profit of an owner-managed business is $39,000 per year. Only the top ten percent of entrepreneurs earn more money than employees. And the typical entrepreneur earns less money than he otherwise would have earned working for someone else.

Many start-ups achieve the sales growth projections that equity investors are looking for. Not even close. Of the 590,000 or so new businesses with at least one employee founded in this country every year, data from the U.S. Census shows that less than 200 reach the $100 million in sales in six years that venture capitalists talk about looking for. About 500 firms reach the $50 million in sales that the sophisticated angels, like the ones at Tech Coast Angels and the Band of Angels talk about. In fact, only about 9,500 companies reach $5 million in sales in that amount of time.

Starting a business is easy. Actually it isn’t, and most people who begin the process of starting a company fail to get one up and running. Seven years after beginning the process of starting a business, only one-third of people have a new company with positive cash flow greater than the salary and expenses of the owner for more than three consecutive months.

How To Always Remember Names

Posted in ,

Forgetting people’s names can prove extremely embarrassing and a complete disaster at time. Specially if it’s that pretty girl’s name you can’t recollect even though you got introduced five minutes ago (although that’s possibly because you were staring down her cleavage at that time).
The key to remembering names lies in association and repetition. Follow these two simple steps and you’ll never be in sticky situation again:
ASSOCIATION: Examine the person’s face discretely when you are introduced. Try to find an unusual feature, whether ears, forehead, eyebrows, eyes, lips or any other part (without going south again). Create an association between that characteristic, the face, and the name in your mind. The association may be to link the person with someone else you know with the same name. Alternatively it may be to associate a rhyme or image of the name with the person’s face or defining feature.
REPETITION: When you are introduced, ask for the person to repeat their name. Use the name frequently during the conversation. If it is unusual, ask how it is spelled or what it means.

Happiest Country In The World

Socialogists have finally found the equation to happiness:Highest birth rate in Europe + highest divorce rate + highest percentage of women working outside the home = the best country in the world in which to live.
Iceland tops the latest table of the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Human Development Index rankings. In terms of wealth, health and education - this is the country to be in.

The country has the sixth highest GDP per capita in the world, it’s where people buy the most books, where life expectancy for men is the highest in the world, and not far behind for women, Iceland banned armed forces 700 years ago, it has the highest ratio of mobile telephones to population, the fastest-expanding banking system in the world, a rocketing export business and crystal-pure air.
And therefore not surprisingly according to an academic study Icelanders are also the happiest people on earth.

MT6227 Info

You can access system files for the MT6227 Chinese phones by turning off the phone, connecting it trough USB, you will have 2 drives for example E: and F:, one is for the system and the internal memory of the phone, the other is for the memory card if inserted, Now copy all of the files on the system and save them into your PC, when you get things messed up or your phone sadly stated to restart "Like the bluetooth problem" just copy the files back into the phone.I know that this trick works, but for an actual firmware I can't find or suck out the MT6227 firmware,

I hear there is a version can be installed trough Linux, but whatever who is going to install Linux on their machine for a stupid phone.

My advice don't puchase any chinese phone whether it is first/second/third copy. Especially in MT6227 Chipset because MT6227 chipset does'nt have actual 2.0MP camera feture and has very slow images/camera/display processing.

T-Mobile Tips & Tricks
Voicemail

Voicemail is included with your service. Voicemail will take messages for you when you are unable to take calls.
Your voicemail does not tell you "envelope" information by default i.e. the number calling you or the date and time of the call. To enable envelope information press 4 (mailbox options) then 3 for "message header" this will let you toggle between no information and message information (number calling you if caller ID information is available) time and date of message.
The following are key presses that control what your voicemail will do:
1 Rewinds 6 seconds. Press 11 to rewind to the beginning
2 Pause
3 Fast forward 6 seconds. Press 33 fast forward to the end
4 Slow down
66 Speed up. Press 6 for normal speed
7 Delete message
9 Save message
* Interrupt outgoing message to enter passcode when accessing voicemail from an external phone or if you have your phone set to require password when accessing it from the handset
# skip message
Change the length of time before your voicemail picks up:
Your voicemail can be configured so that it will pick up from 5 seconds to 30 seconds. To change the length of time for the voicemail service to pick up the line enter the following:
**61*+18056377243**30# This will configure your voicemail to answer after 30 seconds of ringing. If you wish your voicemail to answer in a shorter time change the final value from 30 to another number as little as 5.

Picture Messaging

By default, Picture Messaging isn't enabled for the MDA. To enable Picture Messaging: Send a picture to your own phone number in the MMS section of Outlook.
This signals to the T-Mobile network that your phone is picture messaging capable, and pictures will be received in your MMS section of your phone. Until you do this, you'll receive text messages instead with unclickable links to a website that doesn't work - so make this one of the first things you do after starting T-Mobile service!

GSM Service Codes

Some characters explained
activate
* register and activate
# check status
# unregister
## unregister and deactivate
The codes are used by for example writing ##002# and the pressing the key corresponding to "Send". There are some codes where you are not supposed to press "Send". These codes are only to be used within the phone itself and they don't take any use of the net services. The symbol © signifies pressing the send/talk key on your cellphone.
Not all codes are functioning in all nets. It depends on what the operators have included in their software.
If a phone number is expected you should enter it in the international format e.g. +13115552368. This will always do the trick whatever net you are logged in to.
The codes are divided into different categories:
Security, Call forwarding/diversion, Barring, Call Waiting, CLIP: Incoming Call Presentation Number (Caller ID), COLP: Current Reached Number Presentation (If called number was diverted to another number), GSM network service codes

I tried the 'activate' codes below on my T-Mobile phone and they did not work. However, when I used a slight variation, they did work. I'll give just one example: Unconditional Call Forwarding - To activate, I used **21*number# - and not **21number#. The '*' after 21 was required for me. I suspect all those ** codes may require this.

Remember One Thing about MT6227:

All MT62277 are cheap Asian phone, not a real windows mobile. They rip-off windows icons and say random stuff like Vista is the OS but the reason you are not finding anything for it is because it is really just made for playing MPEG4 movies and MP3s. The only documents I know off that it can open are plain TXT files. I hope you did not pay much for this device because they are very cheap, check the sources for an example." http://www.uxcell.com/ocean-260k-tft-colour-inch-lcd-mobile-phone-with-pixel-camera-mp3-mp4-silver-black-p-6120.html ...

So, Dear Readers, If you are so concern about connectivity and compatibility, then you should change your phone.

Densuke Watermelon

Posted in , ,

A Japanese man took his support for the country's fruit growers to extraordinary lengths today when he paid a record 650,000 yen (£3,100) for a single watermelon on the opening day of the annual season.

The black Densuke watermelon, grown only on Japan's northernmost island of Hokkaido, fetched the highest-ever price at a Japanese auction and may be the priciest watermelon in the world, according to local officials.

The premium watermelon, which weighed 7.7kg (17lbs), was bought by an unnamed seafood trader who made his sky-high bid to show his support for Japanese agriculture, local reports said.

The Japanese are no stranger to outrageously priced melons. Last month, a pair of coveted Yubari cantaloupe melons, another Hokkaido speciality, sold for a record 2.5 million yen, beating the previous year's highest price of 800,000 yen for a pair.
Melons, a popular antidote to Japan's humid summers, are often given as presents during the summer ochugen, or gift-giving season. Their status as luxury items - with hefty price tags to match - makes them an obvious choice among businessmen hoping to hold on to clients and office workers desperate to find their way into their boss's good books.

However, even veteran fruit traders gasped when the melon's buyer made his winning bid this morning. "This is the highest price on record for a Densuke watermelon, and that means it's probably the highest of any watermelon in Japanese history," Kazuyoshi Ohira a local agricultural cooperative spokesman, told the Associated Press.
The melon was the first of an initial batch of 65 and one of 9,000 that will be sold throughout the year. Growers say the unusually warm weather will mean this year's densuke watermelons should be sweeter and juicier than usual.
Fortunately for shoppers of more modest means, the melons will sell in supermarkets and department stores for between 20,000 and 30,000 yen - though many would doubtlessly consider this still a ridiculous sum for fruit.

Auction officials attempted to explain why anyone should part with just a few hundred dollars for a watermelon, let alone £3,000. The key, apparently, is in its unusual black skin and its crisp flesh.
"It's a watermelon, but it's not the same," Ohira said. "It has a different level of sweetness."

Reducing Your Webpage Load Time (Fastening Page Loads)

Posted in , , , ,

1. Use of External Scripts :If you use the same script on multiple pages of your site then use of external script can help reduce loading time. I don’t mean to host them remotely. I mean to load Javascript from the same source. Example :

This way the browser caches the script and it won’t have to read it again and again.

2. Reduce HTTP requests :Loading each item on your website, has an average round-trip latency of 0.2 seconds. So if your site is loading 10 items, regardless of whether they are stylesheets, images or scripts, that equates to 2 seconds in latency alone. If you have a portion on your site with many images within it, such as your footer, you can reduce the number of HTTP requests with image maps. If you are using K2, you can get rid on one extra HTTP request by using one stylesheet, style.css, and no schemes.

3. Don’t Rely on other WebSites :Relying on other sites can also decrease site loading time. If you have several component on your site loading from other sites then it can slow down page loading speed because the other server might be receiving too many HTTP requests.

4. Optimize your Images :Always use the “Save for the web” feature included on image editing software(such as PhotoShop). Images represent the heavier load on virtually any website so make sure you are optimizing them. Alternatively you can also turn to an online image optimizer.

5. Remove WhiteSpace :Whitespace is the spaces between your coding, removing the unneeded tabs and spaces can help a lot. Doing this will take a lot of extra bytes off the total size of your page and will speed up load time quite a bit.

6. Use of CSS and CSS Optimization :CSS can greatly improve your web sites load time. With your styles in an external .css file, the browser can cache all the formatting and stylizing for your pages and it won’t have it read it again and again. Make sure you aggregate and clean your CSS. You can use CleanCSS to merge similar selectors, remove useless properties and remove the whitespace from your code.

7. When a user opens a link on the form “http://www.ddomains.com/contact” the server will need to figure what kind of file or page is contained on that address. If you include a slash (/) at the end of the link the server will already know that this is a directory page, reducing the load time of the site.

8. Which Image Format to use? :You should use GIF or PNG image format. The GIF format should be used with flat-color images like logos or buttons. PNG works very similar to GIF but it supports more colors. JPEG format is suitable for photographs or true-color images.

9. Use of Height and Width tags :Height and Width tags are also important for your images(never forget to add them). Those tags will make sure that the browser knows the size of the image before loading it. The result is that it will reserve a spot for the images while loading the rest of the page, speeding up the whole process.

10. Use of Caching :Use WP-Cache plug-in if you are using a Wordpress blog.*Set the browser’s cache expiration. This can be easily done using PHP in order to send some headers. For example, let’s take a js file called scripts.js. In order to use caching we will create a new file called scripts.js.php and add the following code at the very beginning of it which will set the cache to expire in 3 days :
header("Content-type: text/javascript; charset: UTF-8");header("Cache-Control: must-revalidate");$offset = 60 * 60 * 24 * 3;$ExpStr = "Expires: " .gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s",time() + $offset) . " GMT";header($ExpStr);?>

And last but not the least, host your site on a fast server or buy a dedicated server for hosting your sites(like i have bought). HostGator is one of the popular hosting service now a days, I am using this service on many of my sites.

Online Video Editing Websites

Most of them allow users to publish their edited videos on any web page, embedded in a video player; however, only few of them let users save their edited videos on their computer.
In this mini-guide I have collected for you the most popular sites that allow users to edit videos online. Characterizing traits that I have taken in consideration while reviewing them are:
Input file formats: which are the supported file formats of the video that can be edited online.
Output file formats: in which file formats can be saved the videos edited online.
Embedding support: the possibility to post the edited video on any webpage.
Upload from HD, Mobile or URL: whether the videos can be uploaded from the hard disk, mobile phone or URL.

Spice Up Your Mobile

(1) Upgrade to a diamond-encrusted, million-dollar GoldVish phone. Conspicuous consumerism at its best. GoldVish is a must-have for all you multi-millionaires out there. Over 100 carats in diamonds and white gold throughout. Wow. That’s hot. If Paris Hilton doesn’t already have this phone, I guarantee she will by the winter. If you can’t afford a GoldVish, go for the much more affordable Vertu (though it’s no cheapie with a base price of $800). What’s that you say, your long-term cell contract is the only thing keeping you from buying one of these babies? Celltradeusa.com offers a get out of your cellphone contract free card…for a small fee. But if you’re rich enough to afford either the GoldVish or Vertu phones, you probably don’t care anyway.

(2) Go full screen. Nokia is developing a ridiculously sexy new phone called the “aeon” which uses a full touch screen over the entire surface of the phone. [Engadget via Mobility Site] Basically the entire surface of the phone turns into a touch screen when in use, and then back to generic looking plastic when not. It’s ingenious.

(3) Find yourself. Get GPS. It’s expected that the number of cell phone subscribers with GPS services will reach 315 million by 2011. Here’s an example of a Nokia handset with GPS. GPS is this year’s in-phone MP3 service, or last year’s camera phone technology. Expect almost every phone manufacturer to include some form of GPS in their newest phones in 2007. In fact, the competition for having the best GPS technology among phone companies has already begun as Nokia recently signed a deal with GPS giant Trimble.

(4) Grab your 15 seconds of fame. Enter a cameraphone art contest. Keep in mind that Andy Warhol actually said, very cynically, that everyone will have their 15 seconds of fame, not 15 minutes.

(5) Project yourself. This could be taken two ways: get a screen projector for your cell phone, or a phone with 3D images. The projector idea won’t be useful for most people, especially for $400. But if you’re really into gadgets, there’s no better way to make a statement at a party than with a projection screen shooting out from your cell. By contrast, the 3D images I’m digging. I predict that everyone is going to want this technology; unfortunately they aren’t exactly available yet.

(6) Get mobile VoIP service. VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, is a new form of telephony where a call is carried over the Internet. With PDA cellphones coming into the mainstream, millions of people already have broadband Internet access via their phones. So taking the next step to using your cell to make free VoIP calls is already possible, and its only a matter of time before it goes mainstream. In fact, if you have a cellular data plan, you might already have access to mobile VoIP (although not all providers allow it). Mobile VoIP is relatively new, but depending on your phone and provider, some of your choices are Mino Wireless, EQO Mobile, iSkoot, Fring, SoonR, and Skype for PocketPC (specific handsets). There are also a few more technologies like Talkster, that are still being developed. If you’re a tech-junkie, you’ll want to follow VoIP and cell-phone integration for the next few months, because when this hits the mainstream, its going to be huge.

(7) Get mobile TV service. It’s not for everyone, but the number of people subscribing to TV broadcasts over their mobile phone/ PDA is increasing. That’s because reviews consistently say that the quality is excellent and at $9.95 per month it is within almost everyone’s price range.

(8) Get mobile radio. There are new mobile radio services forming, including Motorola iRadio, which features 600+ channels of National Public Radio music programming. CD quality at that. I expect this to be really popular in cities where commuters rely on public transit, because people will be able to get the daily news without having to carry an extra pocket radio.

(9) Unlimited cellular data plan. If you’re planning on browsing the Internet with your cell phone, listening to streaming music, or using mobile VoIP or mobile TV (see above), then you need not only need a cellular data plan (aka cellular wireless), but an “unlimited” monthly bandwidth account. Just make sure that “unlimited” means unlimited, as some providers cap monthly data bandwidth at 250 Megabytes, others at 10 Gigabytes. To get an idea, a video might be 50 Mb. So 250 Mb doesn’t take you very far. In case you’re interested, almost every provider is offering these unlimited plans, and they will typically run you about $60-$80 per month.

(10) Add a Wi-Fi card. Some smart phones and PDAs have a slot where you can insert memory or other modules. If you don’t want to get an expensive cellular data plan, you can access the Internet on your phone using Wi-Fi as long as you are near a Wi-Fi network. In fact, Motorola recently introduced a model where the wifi connectivity was actually built in to the phone.

(11) Setup a Bluetooth headset or earpiece (or sunglasses!). These are great if you tend to move around in a room a lot. You can also tuck your cell phone in your pocket and answer your calls through the headset. If you’re out in public and feel silly wearing a headset, try an earpiece, which tucks into and around your ear. Bluetooth headsets/ earpieces are also great for using VoIP on your desktop or laptop computer, provided that they are Bluetooth-enabled. If you feel like splurging, there’s the Motorola Razrwire Bluetooth-enabled sunglasses from Oakley, for roughly $200-300. A great accessory for someone on the go, particularly athletes.

(12) Get/make a ringtone. Ringtones are a multi-billion dollar market today. Individually, they’re pretty expensive considering that you’re rarely getting a full song. So if you’re the DIY sort, make your own ringtones. If you use Audacity to record, the software is free and easy to use. So scour through your collection of music and create your own custom tones. Just make sure you don’t try to sell them if you didn’t write the songs yourself, else you may have to call home. Hello Dad? I’m in jail. Just kidding.

(13) Buy and sell your own ringtones through your mobile. If you’re more of a leader than a follower, especially if you have a geeky bone or two in your body, you’ve probably already made your own ringtones (see above), phone wallpaper, and other mobile content. If not, MyNuMo provides web-based tools to do that very thing. What’s sexy about that? You can sell your creations on your own NumoMedia site, or via SMS, with MyNuMo handling all the distribution and transactions for your little company. Imagine your tones, papers and videos on your friends phones, their friends’ phones… the mind - and wallet - boggles.

(14) Make your cell phone squeal. After all the investment you’ve put into your phone to sexy it up, the last thing you want is for it to be stolen. So get your hands on Remote XT, an application that makes your phone scream if it’s stolen. It stores all your crucial data online, and if the phone is stolen, RemoteXT wipes the databank clean so that the thief can’t use it. When you recover the phone (or switch to a new one), you can restore all your contacts and other data.

(15) Pay with your cell phone. A number of newer phones are being tested in various parts of the world, including sports stadiums, which use a technology called contactless payment. Contactless payment comes in several forms including smart cards, key fobs, and now cell phones. Basically, you wave the phone near a special reader, and the appropriate amount of money is transferred from your account. Contactless payment uses a technology known as RFID, or Radio Frequency IDentification, which is at the cutting-edge of Mobile technology. This technology is just coming on to the market, but RFID contactless pay looks like it could be the next big thing.
